Wun Hop Kuen Do

The Name of the Organization is call " Wun Hop Kuen Do Martial Arts International Association." It is a part of Dacascos Incorporate, registered and existing in the state of Oregon, USA. Originally, it was called Dacascos Kung fu Wun Hop Kuen Do Association as per the original emblem which has it's origin dating back to 1968. The need to rename the organization came about in 1998 after revamping many of the original Kajukenbo-Ch'uan fa-Wun Hop Kuen Do techniques and principles. This move to modify and adopt a more open martial arts attitude lead to the development of solidifying a concept, in which its purpose is to open WHKD to anyone that is willing to understand it's martial arts growth and existence. To apprehend this, one must understand that when Al Dacascos expression of martial arts first came on the scene in the early 1960's, it was Al Dacascos’ expression of his soft style “Kajukenbo (Kenpo)” techniques which he developed with the encouragement of his mentor, Professor Adriano E. Emperado and classmate Instructor, Al Dela Cruz. Together the name “Kajukenbo Tum-Pai” was to represent this expression of Martial Arts utilizing southern styles of Chinese Gung-fu with a hint of internal expressions i.e. Tai-chi Ch’uan. This development stage was done in Hawaii during 1963-65. When Al Dacascos moved to Hayward, California in February 1965, he joined up with the San Jose Chinese Physical Cultural Center then headed by Sifu Paul Ng of the southern Fu Hak Kung Fu style and his instructor, Professor Wong Jack Man of the Northern Style Kung fu systems. Seeing the limitations of the Kajukenbo-Tum Pai expression, Al Dacascos went on the re-name it “Kajukenbo-Ch'uan fa” in 1967. Again, the suppose of Emperado and Dela Cruz proved vital as the emblem that is international recognized for Kajukenbo today was developed and designed by Al Dacascos. It was adopted as the official Kajukenbo emblem for the Kajukenbo Association of America. Since then, many of the Kajukenbo organizations, national and International uses it in some form or another as their own. In 1968, “Wun Hop Kuen Do” (Combination fist arts) became the official name for Al Dacascos own expression of his Chinese Kung fu as he departed from the Kajukenbo system to further develop his art. The Emblem with Dacascos Kung fu Wun Hop Kuen Do is the official Emblem for his direct students after 1968. The new Emblem, (Wun Hop Kuen Do Martial Arts International Association), represents the new organization formed in 1998. One of the goals of this organization is to further develop this expression of Martial arts by not limiting its concepts and practicalities but to absorb the usefulness of any and every form of self-defense to which effectiveness, realism and simplicity is further enhanced. Al Dacascos is surrounded by many of his top Martial Arts technician within WHKD who also have extensive back ground in other martial arts disciplines. All of these advisors are on his research and development team whose sole purpose is to maximize and formulate a method and expression that will be recognized as the martial arts of the new millennium.
